Use this decodable text to give students practice reading closed-syllable words with consonant blends like black, grass, stick, and still. Skilled readers will learn to recognize beginning and ending blends as two consecutive letters that come before or after a vowel. Although the letters in the blend represent their own sounds, students will blend and read the sounds as one unit. For example, the beginning blend 'gr-' in the word grass represents the sounds of both 'g' and 'r', but we blend the two letter sounds together.
